Client Case Study - Bell and Symbol

Our client had decided to replace a pair of monochrome full matrix LED graphical displays with LCD screens of equivalent size. The purpose of the replacement was to provide higher resolution and full colour in the same physical space and to replace old equipment with new.

The use of the old displays was to display the symbol of the commodity that was currently trading on the floor. When the time for trading that commodity ended a bell sound was played over the PA system and the symbol of the next commodity was displayed. At the end of trading the client’s logo was displayed until the start of the next trading session.

A factor in the decision to replace the old LED displays was the cost of making any alterations to the bespoke software driving them. With the prospect of adding several new commodities to the system in the near future it was deemed more cost effective to replace the old system with one that could be re-configured more easily.

Telefax sourced suitable software for the client to enable the LCD screens to perform this function. The client’s marketing department provided suitably sized bitmap images of the symbols for each commodity, making use of the full colour capability of the new LCD screens compared to the monochrome images that had previously been used. The industry standard off-the-shelf software sourced by Telefax was able to be configured to perform the required function, synchronized to the client’s clocks, with the addition of a bespoke template. This allowed the schedule at which images were displayed to be altered by the client with minimal effort and allowed the insertion of new images to be made as easy as placing the new bitmap image in the appropriate directory on the PC and adding the file name to the template.
